Meet Gary Perone

February 4, 2019

As the Football season comes to an end and the calendar switches to February, our attention switches to baseball. To kick off February and get ready for Spring Training, we are going to focus on the minor league teams in our area.

When it comes to the Brooklyn Cyclones, the name that comes to mind is Gary Perone. He’s the heart and soul of the Mets’ minor league team that play their games in Coney Island.

Gary has been recognized by many different organizations for the stellar work he does.

He was awarded the MiLB Presidential Citation in 2010 for his involvement and assistance with the MiLB Diversity and Inclusion Program.

In 2012 and again in 2016, he was selected by the New York Penn League as the Robert Julian Award for Community Service & Baseball Award.

In 2017, he received the HeartShare Genie Award, American Legion Man of the Year, and the Italian American Baseball Executive of the Year by Team Italy and the Italian American Baseball Foundation.

In 2018, he received the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Community Hero Award.

In addition to his duties with the Cyclones, he has created or spearheaded many industry and citywide initiative's. Those include the Long Ball Club, NYC Varsity League, and the largest youth baseball tournament in NYC, the Borough Cup.

Always willing to help the community, Gary continues to serve as President / Co-Founder of the Borough Cup, Vice President of the New York Pro Baseball Scouts Association (Hot Stove League) and Board Advisor to the Greater NY Sandlot Athletic Association.

A graduate of St. Francis College, he currently serves as an adjunct professor for Long Island University - Brooklyn, where he teaches a course on professional selling and communications in Sports.

Gary and his wife, Ellena have four children: Nicolette, Dominique, Alexandrea and Gary John.  I am proud to call Gary a friend and to honor all he’s done in baseball and the community.

The Gary Perone is stuffed with (Coney Island) mini dogs, topped with Provolone Cheese and served with Deep Fried Oreos (a Coney island Speciality). 🎡
