All Hail Horrigan

I have been very lucky over the past 14-plus years to have much written about Foley`s, almost all of it good too! With the Red Sox coming to town, I have decided to honor the very first man to write about Foley`s, Jeff Horrigan.

When I first met Jeff, he was with the Boston Herald, we became fast friends before there even was a Foley’s. When I got to what was then called “PG Kings,” I couldn’t tell anyone that I was in the process of buying it. That, however, didn’t stop Jeff from writing about it. Luckily, the State Liquor Authority didn’t read the Herald that Saturday. It just happened to be the same day that Don Zimmer and Pedro Martinez had their fracas.

Jeff is behind the Drop Kick Murphys huge hit “Tessie” and is also one of the founders, along with Peter Gammons, of Hot Stove Cool Music. They, along with the Foundation To Be Named Later, have raised millions to help non-profit agencies benefitting urban youth and their families.

Jeff was also in the first class of the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame

He now lives in Wisconsin with his wife Katie and his daughters Sadie and Kerry. (On a very cool side note, when Sadie was christened she was the 10th generation to be christened in the same church.)

So this week we go all the way back to the beginning to honor our friend.

Horrigan’s Handful is stuffed with cheese curds, because he now lives in Wisconsin. It is topped with Cajun Mayo on the bun ( a little hot Stove, see what we did there?) and our house salsa (our nod to the Cool Music), served with fries.

Stop in this week and give it a try!
